Convention Center District
Austin's convention and events hub, home to SXSW and major cultural gatherings.
About the District
The Convention Center District anchors the southeastern section of downtown, centered on the Austin Convention Center which hosts major events including SXSW, Austin City Limits, and hundreds of conferences each year. The district is undergoing a major transformation with the UnconventionalATX expansion project, expected to complete in 2029, which will add new event space, public parks, and a reimagined connection between downtown and Lady Bird Lake. While the district currently has no residential condo buildings, its proximity to Rainey Street, 2nd Street, and East Downtown makes it a key amenity for surrounding residents.
Boundaries
Roughly bounded by Cesar Chavez to the south, 4th Street to the north, Congress Avenue to the west, and I-35 to the east.
